Overview Of House Of Glory
The House of Glory Children Care Centre (HGCCC) was founded with a drive to break the cycle of poverty using education and self-reliance as a weapon of sustenance. No child should suffer as a result of poverty or be denied an opportunity to realise their true potential because they do not know how to express themselves properly academically.
Mr. Andrew and Ms. Maria Mopereo in 2001 started an early learning centre to help their community in providing quality education for young children. In those years many young children were seen running around on streets and some not looked after as parents would be at work. The founders then saw an opportunity to group these children to teach them as well as provide a safe place for them while their parents are at work. The founders were so passionate that they even opened their home to house some of the children who needed further home care over and above school care.
Mr Andrew Mopereo is even more passionate as he also experienced the brunt of poverty as he was expelled from school due to non-payment of school fees which was R40 at that time. R40 seems little now but in those days, it was enough to deny a child a bright future and an opportunity to get out of the poverty cycle. His parents were divorced and the mother could not provide better life for her children. As he suffered and did not have a good schooling opportunity in his life, he purposed in his heart after he became successful, to help other children who are now in the similar situation he grew in.
The communities that are currently benefiting from their vision of early learning centres are Diepsloot, Riverside and Cosmo City. The Mopereos would like to further establish an orphanage and ultimately a primary school which will later be a feeder to the high school. Their vision to integrate children from poverty-stricken homes and those from homes were parents can afford to pay for their schooling needs. With this integration, children will both learn and assist one another to break the bad cycle of poverty that is busy controlling our township communities.
They have currently acquired a 2000m2 land at Riverside which they intend to use for primary school building. Currently there is a pre-school build with some play part and sports filed section. This land is perfectly situated between Riverside and Diepsloot, which is a good opportunity for a primary school and high school for both communities. The founders intend to include children from both affording parents and those who can not afford so to give as many children an opportunity to better their lives and break the cycle of poverty.
